Yuto Horigome won the first-ever men's street skateboarding gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The Japanese skateboarder secured a historic feat after finishing his performance at the Ariake Urban Sports Park with a total score of 37.18 points.

In the final, Horigome was the only rider to get nine points from the judges in all tricks.

The 22-year-old Japanese skater learned to ride his board in Tokyo - his hometown - when he was only seven years old.

Horigome's training ground was just 30 minutes away from the Olympic venue.

To steal the historic gold medal, the Japanese completed a nollie 720 noselide on his way to the podium.

Kelvin Hoefler from Brazil ended up taking the silver medal, while American Jagger Eaton secured the bronze.

The world's first Olympic skateboarders had to battle it out seven rounds under intense heat.

The temperature affected the skaters' feet and increased the flexibility of the boards, resulting in more wipeouts.

Interestingly, several riders wore headphones and listened to their favorite music while trying to land the most complex maneuvers.
