Gerardo Valencia: he loves to skim | Photo: Dave Scott/Zap Skimboards

Gerardo Valencia loves to skim. The Mexican rider from Barra De Navidad, Jalisco, is the star of Zap Skimboards' latest short film.

Valencia was born on the 23rd March 1995. He's only 20, but he has a great future ahead of him. The talented skimboarder dropped into Playa los Cocos, near San Patricio-Melaque, and showed his aerial antics.

Although the wave conditions were far from perfect, you can actually confirm how good Gerardo Valencia handles the power of the ocean. Precision, power, flow, and intelligent wave management.

In the second part of "Gerardo Valencia - I Love To Skim," the waves get better, and the Mexican skimboarder confirms he is forte and possesses the innate technique to tame any wave.

That's Melaque Beach. A classic skim break that can easily break bones. The spot has an interesting skimboarding history and community. Next time you see Valencia in the water, make sure you watch him for a while.

The push through, or punch through technique allows surfers to get past a small broken wave and reach the lineup without having to duck dive or turtle roll.
