2018 Outer Banks Skim Jam: the iconic event had all sorts of weather | Photo: Fernandez/Skim USA

Perry Pruitt claimed the 2018 Outer Banks Skim Jam, at Jeanette’s Pier in Nags Head, North Carolina.

The event had all sorts of weather, including onshore winds, small and medium-sized waves, and sunny skies. As a result, athletes had to adapt their rides to the existing conditions.

The OBX Skim Jam already is an institution by itself and is one of the key contests in the Skim USA Tour and United Skim Tour (UST) schedules.

Local hometown hero Perry Pruitt took the win over some top pro riders from all over including California, Mexico, Brazil, and Florida.

"I find it hard to choose the right words when describing this past weekend, but I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out!" expressed Pruitt.

Top amateur rider, Timmy Vitella out of Milton, Delaware, took first in the semi-pro division for two contests in a row, and also claimed first place in the men's category.

Alex Yokley (Pro Women), Sydney Pizza (Women), Nick Turdo (Junior Men), Tatum Dermatus (Junior Women), Corey Klitz (Boys), Eve Redefer (Girls), Eric Sheckells (Menehune), Colton Ettwein (Mini), Colin Jones (Senior Men), Thomas Camacho (Masters), Frank Fernandez (Grandmasters), and Wally Seim (Senior Grandmasters) won the remaining divisions.

The Best Trick award went to Brady Green, from North Carolina, who performed a backside wrap to coffin.

Next up is the Zap Pro/Am World Championships of Skimboarding, running from August 10-12. It's the final stop of the Skim USA Tour and the fourth stop of the United Skim Tour.

This event is part of the Summer Vibes Fest presented by Alley Oop Skim, which includes skimboarding, skateboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, art, and music.

It will be held in Dewey Beach, Delaware, known as the East Coast skim capital, and brings in some of the top professional and amateur skimmers from Mexico, Brazil, Portugal, Costa Rica, Japan, California, and Florida.

World champions Austin Keen, Blair Conklin, Sam Stinnett, and Casey Kiernan will be back to defend their titles.
