Skimboarding phenom Austin Keen aiming to boost sport to the next level

Austin Keen stands on the vast beach of Tybee Island, Georgia, scanning its tiny waves moments before two dozen groms join him for a three-hour skim session. There's nothing like Skim Tybee.

At low tide and just a couple hours after sunrise on a steamy July morning, these South Atlantic coastal waters are no comparison to the epic waves of his current coastal home near Laguna Beach, California.

But while their current is weak, their meaning remains powerful. It was these waves that turned a teenage Keen from a surfer to a skimboarder just to pass the dead time in Tybee's still waters.

"Manifest Destiny," a skimboarding toast to the coasts

We don't know much about "Manifest Destiny (A Skimboarding Short)," but it is a breath of fresh air for the skimboarding community.

The new skim movie by TwinFin Media proves you don't need to be a pro to enjoy skimming. It's all about having fun in the sun - as long as there are two-foot slopes and a few friends to share the moment, you've got what it takes to seize the day.

The man behind the short skim flick is Nick Gruber, an East Coast skimboarder/videographer with a rare and exquisite taste for colorful skim video collages.

Is Blair Conklin ready for a world title shot?

Blair Conklin and Casey Kiernan have taken out the 2016 Southside Shootout, held at Dewey Beach, Delaware.

The second stop on the United Skim Tour (UST) 2016 had maritime conditions for all tastes - glassy, fun shore break waves in the morning, and wind-affected ripples in the afternoon. The organization - Skim USA - made sure everything run smoothly.

Inspired by the sunny weather, Casey Kiernan added a new trophy to her long list of accomplishments in skimboarding. The Floridian, who was also celebrating her birthday, used her experience and technique to beat Alex Yokley, Steff Mags, and Ellen Wood.
