Kirk Hammet: pink is a great color for a surfboard

Metallica's lead guitarist, Kirk Hammett, is an enthusiast surfer who embraced the sport in 2002.

He was spotted surfing in different places in the world, namely Hawaii, Portugal, Australia and Morocco.

Alongside fellow Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, Hammett was announced as a keynote speaker for the Surf Summit 17, in May 2014.

Kirk Hammett was born on the 8th November, 1962, in San Francisco.

In 19810, he co-founded the trash band "Exodus" with Paul Baloff, which became Metallica’s support act in two occasions.

Three years later he was invited by Metallica to join them as the lead guitarist. From the second album on, he also started writing songs for the band.

The mythic heavy metal band won several music awards and is one of the best-selling bands of all times, with a wide and loyal fan base.

Hammett is a talented guitarist who has always pursued more knowledge about his instrument and collected different musical influences. He took lessons from Joe Satriani and the City College of San Francisco.
