Jeremy Flores: pumped and angry | Photo: ASP/Masurel

Eight surfers have booked a spot in Round 5 of the Cascais Billabong Pro 2014, in pumping 5-to-8-foot surf at Guincho.

It's been a tough journey, but only the fittest will keep on going in the Portuguese Prime event. Waves got even bigger as competition moves to Round 4 and 5.

Jeremy Flores is proving all his potential in the most difficult conditions. The French is on a re-qualifying campaign and was able to beat the Costa Rican sensation Carlos Munoz and Marc Lacomare with four consecutive turns and flawless transitions on a right-hander.

"That wave was just perfect! I paddled into it and saw that it had some wall. Everything is a bonus for me now after that shocker of a year that I've had. I want to make heats and get that confidence back," explained Flores.

Jordy Smith put on a solid performance and claimed the highest heat total of the day with 18.07 points. Smith stayed strong in double-overhead waves, and proved he's ready for Supertubes.

"There is so much power out there that if you place the board in the right place you can find yourself getting some big sections and big scores. I chose a round tail for this heat. Like I said, there is so much power that when the sections do arise you can really push it and give it a good jam," adds Smith.

Vincent Duvignac managed to beat Michel Bourez with a speedy barrel, clean exit and a long roundhouse cutback that was rewarded a 9.57. The French surfer eventually found a stronger backup on another lefthander and took the win.

"It was a special heat, Michel is one of my favourites and when I saw that his wave was barrelling I knew he was getting a good score, so I thought now I have to go big or go home," concluded Duvignac.
