Kelly Slater: broken toes, not broken dreams | Photo: Kelly Slater

Kelly Slater has broken a bone on the second and third toes of his left foot, but the champion won't miss the 2014 Billabong Pipeline Masters.

The 11-time world surfing champion is keeping his eyes on the title race, despite suffering an injury while riding waves at Cloudbreak, in Fiji.

"The foam ball from the lip landing inside the barrel bounced back up and flipped the board into my foot, hyper-extending the toes backwards," explains Kelly Slater on his Instagram feed.

"My second toe was sitting kind of across my third one, so I knew something was a little off. The day before that I went over the falls and broke my fin off with my knee, so I'm actually probably lucky to not have gotten hurt worse."

Californian doctors estimate Slater will be sidelined for approximately three-to-four weeks, but they confirmed he'll be able to join the world title race and defend last year's victory, in Hawaii, between December 8th-20th.

Frances Osorio Rivera is just another kiteboarder. The only noticeable difference is that she rides the winds of her favorite spots with one only one leg.
