The calendar for the 2016 World Surf League (WSL) has been announced.

The 2016 Samsung Galaxy Men's Championship Tour (CT) remains unchanged. It will kick off in the Gold Coast, Australia, on March 20th, and it will wrap up on December 20th, in Pipeline Hawaii.

The world's best male surfers will compete in 11 events. The WSL decided to consider Western Australia's North Point as a backup site for the Margaret River/The Box contest.

Additionally, WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow confirmed that the Dream Tour will return to Jeffreys Bay, in South Africa, despite the shark attack suffered by Mick Fanning during the 2015 final.

"The WSL has made significant investments in the areas of surveillance and response for all current and future Tour spots, and we are currently working with a number of firms specializing in mitigation technology that focus on both athlete safety and the safety of the marine environment," explained Perrow.

"The strides we're making in the areas of surveillance and response are significant, but there presently exists no technology that has been proven to be 100% effective. Our athletes are aware of this, as they have always been."
