Lucas Silveira and Isabella Nichols have been crowned winners of the 2016 Ericeira World Junior Championships, at Ribeira d'Ilhas, in Portugal.

The finals got underway in clean three-to-four foot waves at the iconic European point break. The Brazilian surfer Lucas Silveira defeated Timothee Bisso in the decisive heat.

"I'm trembling right now; it's been a long two weeks here, a lot of waiting and then finally the waves were firing yesterday and today,” an ecstatic Silveira stated.

"The final was really slow. I started good, and thankfully I finished well too. I've had a crazy event here; my lowest heat was a 15 something. It's incredible."

In the Women's competition, Isabella Nichols smashed her opponent, the event's defending champion Mahina Maeda. The Australian surfer scored an impressive two-wave heat total of 18.30 points, with an active frontside approach.

"I'm so happy; I don't even know what to say I'm speechless. I was lucky to get those two waves; I didn't know what was happening cause we couldn't hear any scores," expressed Nichols.

"When I heard I had a good lead, I started to calm down a bit, and nothing really came through after that. It was the longest heat of my life for sure."
