Jesse Mendes has taken out the Billabong Pro Cascais 2016, in Guincho, Portugal.

The Brazilian surfer defeated Jeremy Flores in a final held in two-to-three-foot surf. Despite the high winds, both surfers managed to find multiple opportunities in the line-up.

However, it was only in the last third of the heat that they build their two-wave total. With six minutes to go, Flores had a comfortable lead over Mendes, but the Brazilian found two high-scoring gems and stole the show.

"I was completely lost out there, and Jeremy already had two scores, but everything came together, and I got those two waves to win. I don't even know what I'm feeling right now," revealed Jesse Mendes.

"I've had so many close calls in this event; there's just so much emotion today, buzzer beaters. It's been an insane event, definitely the best of my life."

With this significant victory in Portugal, the surfer from Guaruja leaps from 44th to the number 10 spot in the Men's Qualifying Series rankings. Jesse Mendes can very well enter the Dream Tour in 2017.
