Ellie Turner and Jobe Harris have taken out the 2016 British National Surf Championships at Perranporth.

British surfing is changing. Surfing Great Britain and the English Surfing Federation announced plans for a merger, and the future of the sport looks bright in the country.

And when 215 surfers are willing to compete for glory across 15 divisions, you know they're on the right path.

The event had glassy three-to-four-foot surf thanks to the light offshore winds and gentle, autumnal swells.

On the first day of competition, the athletes of the Open Men's division proved why their surfing is making waves and attracting more and more news coverage.

The junior competitors added the new school touch spectators were waiting for.

The second day brought the finals, and the quality of the performances continued to impress judges and fans.

In the end, 15 surfers were crowned British champions.
