John John Florence: ready to defend his maiden World Surf League title | Photo: WSL

The calendar for the 2017 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) has been announced.

There are no significative changes in the Men's CT season. The world's best surfers will compete in 11 surf breaks located in nine different countries. In 2017, the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro will get underway after the initial stage set for the Gold Coast, and before Bells Beach.

The Rio Pro will move its primary venue from Postinho Beach to Itaúna Beach, in Saquarema. WSL says that Postinho has not delivered the best waves, but the main reason for the shift is water quality.

The 2017 Men's Championship Tour will be Kelly Slater's last on the Dream Tour. The 11-time world champion will try to clinch an unprecedented 12th title before hanging his leash.

On the women's side, everything remains as it was - ten contests in eight nations. Tyler Wright will try to defend her world title, but the likes of Courtney Conlogue, Carissa Moore, Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons and more will have a word on that.
