Oney Anwar: he got the best result of his career in Taiwan | Photo: Bennett/WSL

Oney Anwar has claimed the 2016 Taiwan Open of Surfing, at Jinzun Harbor, in Taiwan.

The penultimate Qualifying Series (QS) event of the year had 1,500 points for the winner, but the finalists had to battle against the elements to find the best waves in the strong side-shore wind conditions.

Anwar was only able to secure the best result of his career with a solid last wave awarded with 9.00 points. Despite putting out an excellent performance, Cody Robinson had to settle for a runner-up finish.

"I'm so stoked I can't believe it. I really enjoy the waves in Taiwan and even though it was stormy today the waves were still good. It's so good to finish the year off with a win especially the biggest win of my career," expressed Oney Anwar.

The 2016 Taiwan Open of Surfing also crowned Edouard Delpero and Honolua Blomfield in the longboard divisions.
