Mexican surfing star Oscar Moncada died in a car accident in San Pedro Pochutla. Mexico.

The tragedy took place near his hometown of Puerto Escondido, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Moncada was driving a Mercedes Benz with two friends - Diego Oropeza and Waldo Rendón.

The vehicle collided with a truck. Diego and Waldo died immediately; Oscar was taken to the nearest hospital but did not resist the injuries.

Moncada was one of the best and most experienced surfers in Puerto Escondido. He surfed the big wave break for two decades.

In 2006, he won the Rip Curl Pro Search Trials in Mexico and earned a wildcard into the Championship Tour event.

The 34-year-old surfer also competed in the Big Wave Tour. Recently, he had finished ninth at the 2017 Puerto Escondido Challenge.

Hours before the tragic car accident, Oscar Moncada paid tribute to Jean da Silva, the Brazilian surfer who was found dead at his home in Santa Catarina.

"Rest in peace, friend. I still can't believe why. Even a person as good as Jean da Silva can leave us of this world. I'm going to miss you, brother. Today, I cry for you," Moncada wrote.

Oscar Moncada was a member of the Volcom surf team and was also a music producer.
