The 2018 Red Bull Queen of the Bay has been confirmed for Waimea Bay, on the North Shore of Oahu.

It's an old dream and, this time, it should get underway. The women's only big wave surfing event has a waiting period that begins on October 1st and ends on November 21st, 2018.

The inaugural surf competition honors the life of Queen Ka'ahumanu, the queen consort, and regent of the Kingdom of Hawaii as the first Kuhina Nui. Ka'ahumanu was ahead of her time, and a strong supporter of the rights of native Hawaiian women.

The birthplace of big wave surfing is about to witness a unique and one-of-a-kind contest. Thirty daredevils will challenge the liquid moving mountains of Waimea Bay in testing conditions.

"We are raising funds to make sure ladies have opportunities to be surfers and support their surfing future. Funds will be channeled to help with prize money, crew, legal issues, paperwork, and equipment," explains Betty Depolito, one of the organizers.
