Gabriel Medina and Carissa Moore have taken out the 2018 Surf Ranch Pro, held in Lemoore, Central California.
The Brazilian and Hawaiian surfers claimed the first ever Championship Tour (CT) event held by the World Surf League (WSL) in a wave pool.
In 1985, Tom Carroll won the World Professional Inland Surfing Championship held at the Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, a man-made wave located in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Thirty-three years later, the world's best surfers invaded an iconic surf break originally developed by Kelly Slater and later sold to the WSL.
The contest was once again plagued by technical issues. The online broadcast was interrupted several times and forced WSL to apologize to fans.
But that didn't stop Medina from storming the surf pool with his aerial antics, which included kerrupt flips. It's his second win this season.
"Filipe is dangerous and probably the best surf at the Surf Ranch. It is totally different from surfing in the ocean, but I surfed the way I wanted to," expressed Gabriel Medina.
"I think this is the most high-performance wave we've ever surfed at and it's good to feel that we are on level ground with the other guys."
On the women's division, Carissa Moore secured her first event win this season with a dominant frontside performance.
"My biggest goal is to finish the year off strong and re-qualify because I'm not in the world title race. I want to gain some confidence hopefully for next year," concluded Moore.
