The Maverick Surf Contest is on hold

The Mavericks Surf Contest is on hold, as surfers voted not kick off the event on Wednesday.

The swell might be interesting, but the winds will not be the best to put Mavs on. Nevertheless, the wave forecast indicates that 20-foot waves are expected to hit the coast.

The official website confirms that the competition in on hold, after a huge talk spread on the high surf advisory issued for the Half Moon Bay region.

There 24 surfers ready to rock the Mavericks Surf Contest and they will decide when it's a go for big time surfing.

Rob Bain, Layne Beachley, and Dave Macaulay have taken out the Azores Airlines World Masters Championship in the Grand Masters, Women's Masters and Men's Masters divisions held in good three-foot surf at Praia de Santa Barbara.
