In the future of surfing, the speed of surf rides will be one of the top issues of performance and judging.

That's why there's a new technology hitting the wave peaks. SBOX is the company behind this GPS tracking system tested in the Xcel Pro Showdown at Supertubes, South Africa.

Windsurfers and kiteboarders are already using similar ways of measuring speed. In the next months, surfers will be able to watch how they performed in 3D terrain digital maps. The speed records, the highest aerials and the trajectories.

The first tests registered a top speed of 83 km/h and a 306m distance ride. Not bad. The SBOX equipment is being upgraded to lighter and more intelligent devices.

In the future, you will be able to connect a GoPro Camera to this speedometer and download all the data needed to improve your surfing skills.

It's almost finals' day at Playa Llacolén. The 2018 Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival (ABF) continues in La Cupula, one of the finest boogie waves in Chile.
