Russell Winter: the UK surfing boy

Russell Winter has conquered the 2010 North East Open, held at Longsands Beach, Tynemouth, UK.

The pro surfer from Newquay has showed incredible surfing performances during the whole competition. Joss Ash took the second place and French surfer Gordon Fontaine was third.

"It has been a fantastic event. I have enjoyed coming to Tynemouth and competing in good solid waves. The challenging conditions required a lot of paddling this year", Winter said.

The winner of the North East Open extends his lead of the 2010 UK Pro Surf Tour.

In the Pro Junior division, Lewis Clinton had what it takes to clinch the victory over Lyndon Wake, from Croyde. Aaron Evans was third and Sam Scoble fourth.

The 2010 UK Pro Surf Tour ends with the Animal Newquay Open, November 13th-14th.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved surfing's qualification system for the Tokyo 2020.
