Adriano de Souza: stay cool, brother

Adriano de Souza and Kelly Slater have exchanged a few heated up words during the 2011 Hurley Pro Trestles. It all happened when the Brazilian was surfing his Round 4 heat. Kelly Slater, who was scheduled to compete in the following heat, paddled out a few minutes before.

Suddenly, de Souza starts yelling. Kelly Slater paddles next to him and they talk for a moment. Some say the Brazilian was irritated because Slater was saying something about the Brazilian hassling Taj Burrow.

Adriano was fired up and pointing his finger constantly. Slater responded with hand splashes. Passionate surfing or Latin lively, you choose.

"Everyone wondering what went down at the ocean between me and Slater. I was outburst and took care of that outside the water. He's still my favourite and everything's cool right now", wrote Adriano later, on his Facebook page.

In the post-heat interviews things got apparently quieter. "It's part of the game", summed up de Souza. "He's passionate",answered Slater. The tension didn't leave the competition arena and it is possible to imagine a Souza versus Slater duel later in the contest.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved surfing's qualification system for the Tokyo 2020.
