Jaws: big wave surfing circus

The Red Bull Jaws - Paddle at Peahi, a big wave invitational contest set for Maui, will gather the 21 best big wave surfers in the world.

Jaws is one of the largest and most ferocious surfing waves on the planet. In peak season, there are 20-30 feet waves, in the Hawaiian scale, hittin the Peahi reef.

The mysterious big wave surf event has been slightly unveiled, but the complete list of invitees has not been revealed. Jeff Rowley, John John Florence, Shane Dorian, Greg Long and Kala Alexander have already received tickets to ride.

"It’s like I've been hand-picked as an astronaut for a mission to another planet and nobody's sure what's going to happen, but the whole world is going to be watching", says Jeff Rowley.

"Surfing Jaws is everything to me, and to be recognized as one of the surfers taking big wave surfing to the next level is incredible. Jaws is the biggest, heaviest and most challenging wave in the world to surf - it's the next frontier".

The Red Bull Jaws - Paddle at Peahi is still a secret, even to the invitees. It's known that there will be no jet ski assist to tow the surfers in the big waves.

Mike Parsons will be the contest director of the Red Bull Jaws. The event will run on the best surfing day between 7th December 2012 and 15th March 2013.
