Evan Thompson: waving hello to his surf fans

Evan Thompson took out the 2012 Red Bull Night Riders, in front of 2000 spectators, at Flagler Beach.

The tide was high, as six of the top southeast USA surfers fought the strong surf in one of the most unique tow-at format air competitions on the coast. It was cold, windy and rainy.

Thompson defeated Blake Jones, Oliver Kurtz, Jake Mcguire, Brandon Hoffman and Jesse Heilman, scoring 6.5 out of 10 points in very harsh winter conditions.

"I was patient", Thompson said. "I wanted to prove that I could go big". In fact, the winner had enough patience and his consistency paid off.

Each of the six surfers competing in this tow-at contest has the opportunity to capture big air, pull off their best trick and push the limits of surfing, while spectators can capture a great view from atop the Flagler Beach Pier.
