Owen Wright: mastering vertical attacks

Owen Wright has conquered the 2013 Breaka Burleigh Pro, on the Australian Gold Coast, after defeating Adam Melling in the final heat of the event.

With a an excellent 9.17 wave and a 6.10 point ride, Wright locked in the first victory of his 2013 surfing career, less than one month before the kick-off of the 2013 ASP World Tour.

"It feels great, I've put so much effort into training lately for the year ahead and I'm feeling fit and injury free and I've got the right boards - this is just part of what I want to do this year," said Wright.

"It's my first win since New York in 2011 and it's important to get that winning feeling - I'm fully aware that this is a 4-Star event and the World Championship Tour is another serious step-up but I feel right to really have a crack at it this year".

Sally Fitzgibbons, another New South Wales surfer, took the Women's division of the 013 Breaka Burleigh Pro with a victory over Courtney Conlogue.

"It's a great start to 2013, I've worked hard on improving over the past few months and I'm really looking forward to the Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast in a few weeks time", said Fitzgibbons.
