Billabong Rio Pro: Barra da Tijuca is pumping

The Billabong Rio Pro 2013 has kicked off in clean three-to-five foot (1 – 1.5 metre) waves, at the primary site of Barra da Tijuca.

Ricardo Dos Santos has earned himself a ticket to the main event, after winning the Billabong Rio Pro Trials. The twelve heats of Round 1 have got underway and will deliver tickets to a comfortable Round 3.

The Brazilians, including local star Adriano de Souza, will try to improve last year's results to solidify their spots in the world rankings.

Patrick Gudauskas, Adriano de Souza, Sebastian Zietz, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson and Kelly Slater have already done their job and move to Round 3.

The first waves of the Billabong Rio Pro 2013 are pumping imperfect barrels, with fast rides and a few close-outs. It's lottery time at Barra da Tijuca.

You can follow all the action of the Billabong Rio Pro 2013, in the live webcast.
