Everaldo 'Pato' Teixeira: he rode the Pororoca on a foil surfboard

Everaldo "Pato" Teixeira is no stranger to challenging - and weird - waves.

In the past few years, the Brazilian charger has been dedicating his time to big wave surfing in places like Teahupoo and Nazaré and pushing the boundaries of foiling in unusual scenarios.

This time, "Pato" went on a strike mission to the legendary Pororoca, a tidal bore that occasionally invades the Mearim River near Arari in the north of Brazil.

The pro surfer teamed with the media crew from Canal Off to document the adventure and see whether you could go foil surfing in one of the most dangerous bores on the planet.

"When I got in touch with the essence of the hydrofoil, I understood how far you could go with it. For me, today, the foil is the most efficient equipment for gliding over any surface, river, or ocean," explains Everaldo Teixeira.

"So, I thought it could be exciting to try it in Pororoca, a nearly endless wave with around 30 kilometers of length."

"We went there with low expectations because we didn't know how the foil would work in Pororoca, a wave with a lot of wood sticks and vegetation that could hinder the wing from moving.

"To glide over a wave for 30 kilometers, on lefts and rights, without friction on the water's surface, literally levitating and watching the people's faces as I rode by the river's margins is something I will never forget in my life," concludes "Pato Teixeira."

The expedition to Pororoca was a resounding success and paved the way for a new foil surfing experience in some of the world's finest tidal bores.
