Santiago Muñiz claimed the gold medal in the Open Men division at the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games, held in Tahara, Japan.
In a tight final, the surfer from Argentina beat local favorite Kanoa Igarashi, Peruvian Lucca Mesina, and Japanese sensation Shun Murakami.
"I am the world champion! Again! I have now qualified for the 2019 Pan American Games, and I can dream of Tokyo 2020. I can't believe it! I am so happy right now," expressed Muñiz.

A Scotch whisky distillery teamed up with an American surfboard company to create a surfboard made from whisky barrels.
The limited edition handmade 6'11'', 39.96-liter surfboards are part of Glenmorangie's "Beyond the Cask" project and were fully shaped by Maine's Grain Surfboards.
The Glenmorangie Original is made using approximately 12 barrel staves; it is 20 1/8'' wide, and 2-3/16'' thick.

The world's first multi-break surf park will enter the test mode in October 2018.
Surf Lakes within weeks of completing its first full-scale demonstration facility near Yeppoon, on the Capricorn Coast in Queensland, Australia.
Although it will not initially be open to the public, it will be the first proper surf park with multiple wave peaks in Australia.
