Aritz Aranburu and Amaury Lavernhe have taken out the 2020 Quemao Class in La Santa, Lanzarote, Canary Islands.

The fifth annual invitational surfing and bodyboarding contest was held in memory of David "El Fula" Infante, the legendary Canarian wave rider who passed away surfing El Quemao on January 1, 2009.

The iconic reef break has once again delivered the goods, with 32 surfers and 32 bodyboarders taking on the fast-breaking barreling wave.

Both divisions enjoyed spectacular conditions, and both champions scored Perfect 10s.

Aritz Aranburu unleashed his tube riding skills and was able to steal the show with a nearly flawless performance - a 10-point ride and a 9.40.

"When I was about to hit the water for the final, I realized how lucky and fortunate I am. I stopped for a minute to thank the moment. In the following 40 minutes, the ocean showed me his best smile," expressed the Spanish surfer.

Surfing and Bodyboarding: United We Stand

While Aranburu was making a "wild dream come true," two-time world bodyboarding champion, Amaury Lavernhe, secured his second Quemao Class title.

"It was such an intense two days. Competing at Quemao Class has once again been an incredible experience, not only because of the quality of the waves, but also in terms of the level of riding, organization, spectators, and local vibes," added the French bodyboarder.

"It's great to be part of a unique invitational event in which bodyboarding and surfing share the same waves and are part of the same contest."

The Quemao Class could very well fit in the World Surf League (WSL) and APB World Tour schedules. Hopefully, this world-class wave will be one day included in the professional surfing and bodyboarding calendar.
