Ibrasurf: 15 years of pro surfing in Brazil

The Brazilian Surfing Institute - Ibrasurf - is celebrating its 15th anniversary of life in the world of pro surfing.

On the 6th December 1997, up to 24 surfers were battling for 100$R, in 1.5-meter waves, at Praia Vermelha do Norte, Ubatuba, in Brazil.

With a lot of fun and positive vibes, the Brazilian Surfing Institute was born. Fifteen years have passed and the dream of living the surfing life is now possible in the Portuguese-speaking country.

At that time, surfing was still very much related to marijuana vagabonds and there was a lot of things to be changed. The challenge was huge, indeed.

"We never built things alone. We are very produ for what we've done in these 15 years. All the projects of 2012 have been a success", says Ale Zeni, founder of Ibrasurf.

Ibrasurf gathers academic studies, cultural projects, surf trips, education, environment and social responsability. It holds surf contests, summits and training courses. Ibrasurf aims to plan, qualify and improve professional surfing in Brazil and in the world. uses cookies to ensure you get the best experience on our website. Learn more on our About section.
