Canary Islands: a wave riding destination

The Canary Islands Surf Film Award will deliver 50,000 euros to the best surfing movie made on the archipelago's beaches.

The largest prize purse ever in a surf movie competition wants filmmakers to shoot locally and with surfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing and kiteboarding as the main theme.

"The Canary Islands are an international reference location for the practice of wind and waves sports. For this reason, we believe that the commitment to the water sports tourism has to go through promoting activities that represent the passion and culture that surround these nautical disciplines," explains Maria Mendez, managing director of Canary Islands Tourism Board.

The Canaries want to consolidate their islands as the favorite destination for wave riders from around the world. All films must capture the passion for the ocean, water sports, and its lifestyle.

Participants can submit their movies until August 1st, 2016. A professional jury will analyze all works, and the winning film will be announced during the 4th edition of the Canary Islands Surf Film Festival 2016.

Discover why the Canary Islands probably enjoy the best climate in the world.
