Andrew Stark has been appointed the general manager of World Surf League (WSL) Australia and Oceania.

The Australian surfer served Surfing Australia for nine-and-a-half years, as its chief executive officer (CEO).

Today, Australia's governing body for the sport of surfing is an active organization with 28 employees, and an annual turnover of $AUD 7 million.

Under his leadership, Stark created the national junior development program - Weet-Bix SurfGroms - which has introduced surfing to 70,000 young children.

He also designed the Australian Boardriders Battle and expanded Casuarina Beach's High Performance Centre (HPC), a 4000 m2 facility that provides surf coaching programs to all surfers.

Andrew Stark and his team also established the country's official Olympic surfing program and launched the content platform, which delivers over 30 TV shows to Channel 9 and Fox.

"It has been an honor to lead Surfing Australia. We have achieved much as a team, and we had a lot of fun along the way. It's been a privilege to work with a purpose, and create a healthier and happier Australia through surfing," said Stark.

On September 1, 2018, Andrew Stark will join the WSL roster. The Australian executive will focus on the organization's partnerships, marketing, public relation, and events operations in the region.

He will be responsible for promoting the surf pool technology developed by the Kelly Slater Wave Company, and developing WSL's long-term business interests in Australia and Oceania.

The new CEO of Surfing Australia has not yet been announced.
