Billabong Rio Pro: the Medina Airlines in action

Surfers are flying to Brazil for the third stage of 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), to be ridden between May 8th–19th. The Billabong Rio Pro 2013 is a very important stop.

The race is on and the usual suspects are under the spotlight. Regularity is critical if you want to become a world surfing champion and Barra da Tijuca/Arpoador, in Rio de Janeiro, is a decisive challenge.

Leading by only 50 points, Kelly Slater is ready to talk Portuguese to the waves of the iconic Brazilian surf destination. He won the opening event of the season and now he's ready to recover from an uncharacteristic 13th place, at Bells Beach.

Mick Fanning, Taj Burrow and Adriano de Souza are right behind the Floridian surfer. The Brazilian wants to win the Billabong Rio Pro, but sometimes the pressure is too much for local riders.

John John Florence, winner of the Billabong Rio Pro 2012, will unlikely be able to defend his title due to an injury suffered recently, while landing an aerial.

In the Women's division, Carissa Moore and Tyler Wright are disputing the first places in the rankings and Rio de Janeiro plays a very important role in the title race. Stephanie Gilmore needs to win to get things going for a sixth world trophy.

The Billabong Rio Pro 2013 will run from May 8th–19th, between the Barra da Tijuca and Arpoador surf spots.
