The 2016 Fiji ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship will get underway in Cloudbreak, Namotu, Musket Cove, and Viti Levu from November 12th-18th.

The fifth edition of the event organized by the International Surfing Association (ISA) will crown champions across six divisions: SUP Surfing, SUP Technical Race, SUP Distance Race, Paddleboard Technical Race, Paddleboard Distance Race, Paddle Team Relay.

The SUP and paddleboard competitors get ready to compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals. Team Australia won gold in the first three years of the event (2012-2014), and will return to reconquer the top spot.

The organizers will plant 4,000 mangroves to absorb up to 4,000 tons of CO2 over the next 20 years, in a measure to offset the carbon footprint created by the event.

"The ocean is our playing field and it is vital that as the world governing body for Surfing and SUP we lead by example and do everything we can to protect and nurture the aquatic environment and its eco systems," underlines Fernando Aguerre, president of the ISA.

In 2017, the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship will be held in Denmark. The SUP and paddleboard races will take place in Copenhagen, while the surfing heads to Cold Hawaii, in Klitmoller.
