Gabriel Medina: he'll be playing football in Fifa 21

Two-time world surfing champion Gabriel Medina has been added to FIFA 21, the world's best-selling football simulation video game.

The Brazilian surfer is one of the stars - named the Groundbreakers - featured in the game's new Volta mode.

Medina will appear in the game series that has already sold around 300 million copies worldwide since its debut in 1993.

Volta - meaning "return" in English - is a gaming mode that allows players to compete in street football-style matchups in several locations.

The talented goofy-footer will play alongside F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, American football quarterback Lamar Jackson, former German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, Canadian fashion model Winnie Harlow, Australia footballer Samantha Kerr, Japanese legend Hidetoshi Nakata, DJ Snake, F1 icon Lewis Hamilton, and French star Zinedine Zidane.

Gabriel Medina is a big fan of football - or soccer, as it is called in the United States - and a well-known Corinthians supporter.

One of the surfer's best friends is Neymar Jr., the star of the French team Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazilian national football team.

Medina is expected to represent his country in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. He was the first Brazilian to clinch a world surfing title and the only one to win it twice.

The new FIFA 21 Volta option was first introduced in 2020 and has now been revamped for the second edition of the video game.

Players are invited to build teams, embrace collaborative and multiplayer games, score goals in unique environments, meet all-time legends, and unlock football heroes.

The more you progress, the faster you'll earn rewards and customizable items like clothes, sneakers, hats and be able to change the height, hairstyles, facial features, and tattoos.

Players can win games in a wide variety of scenarios, grounds, and arenas, including New York, Miami, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Sydney, Cape Town, Dubai, Lagos, and Mexico City.

There are 22 football playgrounds for you to choose from.

FIFA 21 Volta Football has its own story and several gameplays.

In Volta Squads, you can play online, team up with friends or play solo. There are divisions and rankings.

In the Featured Battles option, players can recruit some of the world's most famous football stars and compete against the Volta community teams.

The Debut is an introduction to street football led by two legends of the sport - Kaká and Lisa Zimouche.

Gabriel Medina is the first-ever surfer to join a football video game - soccer is by far the most popular sport on the planet.
