Bells Beach: the next wave train leaves in 10 seconds

The 2013 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach will run from March 27th to April 7th, at the iconic spot located in Victoria, Australia.

The 2012 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach final was voted the best heat of the entire season. The Mick Fanning versus Kelly Slater battle was mind-blowing and celebrated the 50th anniversary of the unforgettable surf contest.

Kelly Slater, the four-time Rip Curl Pro champion (1994, 2006, 2008 and 2010), has admitted that a win at Bells Beach would place him in a good position early in his quest for a 12th world title.

The problem is that Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson are right behind him and won't let go till the last wave. It's "their" surf contest.

Bells Beach is one of the world's most famous surfing beaches, with its high performance right-hand reef break that features two unique reef sections: "Rincon" and "The Bowl".

"Rincon" sees most of its action when the surf is in the 2-4ft range, while "The Bowl" feeds on big Southern Ocean swells and will hold waves up to the 15ft range, which it delivered at the unforgettable 1981 event. Long drawn-out carves and steep turns are the way to tame the Bowl's powerful walls.

The 2013 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach will see the FoxKopter in action, too. The revolutionary aerial camera drone will make its maiden voyage over water, at Bells Beach.

FoxKopter uses a full 1920x1080i HD camera with stabilised lens, 3D GPS positioning and 360 degree panning. It is the first camera drone of its type to be approved for use above the area of live surfing competition.
