The first ever Indian Open of Surfing will hit at Panambur Beach, Mangalore, between May 29th-31st, 2015.

The event is run by the Surfing Federation of India, and it is inspired by the US Open of Surfing and the Australian Open of Surfing. There will be official judging under the supervision of the International Surfing Association (ISA).

"The aim of the event is to promote Karnataka beaches, as adventure destinations suitable for surfing, kiteboarding, windsurfing, stand up paddling and various other water adventure sports," explains co-founder of the Surfing Federation of India.

The three-day surf contest will feature Indian surfers, as well as a line-up of international wave riders competing in the Open Men's division. The local categories include Under 16, Men's 17-22, Men's 23-28, Men's 28+, and an Open Women's division.

Up to 100 surfers are expected to attend the inaugural Indian Open of Surfing 2015. The organization has confirmed the participation of several national celebrities from the Bollywood and cricket world.

Panambur Beach is located 10 kilometers north of Mangalore. It is completely run and maintained by a private enterprise - the Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project - to ensure that the beach is kept clean and safe for visitors.
