Mavericks: glad to seem them back

The Mavericks Surf Contest is going to be surfed again under Jeff Clark's management. The iconic big wave rider is back in charge of the world famous Half Moon Bay event.

The new Mavericks Big Wave Invitational 2011 has been granted the opportunity to pump the hearts of all surf enthusiasts from all over the planet. The idea is to have a festival-type surfing contest.

"Exciting opportunity," Clark said in a statement. "Bring stability and energy back to this event with a great group of people."

The official board of the Mavericks Invitational includes Jeff, his wife Cassandra Clark, big wave surfer Ken "Skindog" Collins, Half Moon Bay businessman Rocky Raynor and long-time event photographer Brian Overfelt.

After multiple problems over the last 10 years, peace seems to have settled over Half Moon Bay. All interests and opinions have been taken into consideration and the new season is gearing up.

The Mavericks Big Wave Invitational 2011 will be surfed from December 1, 2011, through March 30, 2012. At any moment during the four-month period, the world's 24 best big wave surfers could be given just 24-hours notice to show up for the contest.
