Jordy Smith: training his aerials before the night comes

The 2012 Red Bull Nightshift is about to take of in the warm waves North Beach, Durban, South Africa, on the 30th June. Joining host Jordy Smith at the event will be a group of famous aerialists.

Travis Logie, Rudy Palmboom, Ricky Basnett, Dan Redman, David Weare, Chad Du Toit, Shaun Joubert, Slade Prestwich and Michael February are ready to get towed off into the waves to pull of some massive aerials in the night sky.

Last year, the inaugural Red Bull Nightshift was a resounding success, with an estimated 10,000 people coming down to watch the high-flying antics as the boys were flicked into waves by a jet-ski.

Jordy is pretty stoked to have it in Durban this time around. "It’s going to be bigger and better than last year". The event goes to Jordy’s hometown of Durban and the break he learned to rip on, North Beach.

The commentator welcomes the crowd and introduces everyone to the event, the concept, the riders, the waverunner operators. The ski driver slowly accelerates, and as soon as the rope is taught, he opens up and goes screaming along the beach, parallel to the shoreline.

A wave appears and starts building up as the waverunner races along it, dragging the surfer at incredible speeds straight into it. Then, it's all Red Bull Nightshift.
