Kiron Jabour has taken out the 35th edition of the HIC Pro, in double overhead surf at Sunset Beach, Hawaii.
The Hawaiian surfer beat O'Neill Massin, Beyrick De Vries, and Slade Prestwich in the 30-minute final. After a slow start, surfers quickly understood that positioning, patience, and tactics would pay off.
"It was a really tight final. We missed a couple of sets because we didn't know if there was going to be bigger sets coming in," explained Jabour, a North Shore-bred surfer.
"But then we had a flurry of waves, and it worked out for me. I got the best wave of the heat, but I still needed a score at the end because O'Neill was the only one with two waves."
In the end, Kiron Jabour was fortunate to get the second wave, and the score he needed to win the contest. Now, he is aiming at the Triple Crown of Surfing.
"It's a good start. I can't believe it. I want to win the Triple Crown. It's been a dream of mine growing up here, and I'm going to give it a good go this year."
The HIC Pro is a prestigious local Hawaiian event that qualifies surfers for the Triple Crown of Surfing and awards 3,000 Qualifying Series (QS) points.
