Mark Boyd and Iona McLachlan have taken out the 2019 Scottish National Surfing Championships, in Caithness, Scotland.

The event got underway at Sinclair's Bay and Brims Ness, in the Scottish Highlands, and attracted 59 surfers.

Athletes competed across eight divisions, in a four-person priority system powered by live and online scoring.

The superb ocean conditions meant plenty of A-frame, barreling waves breaking in one of the best slabs the northeast of Scotland has to offer.

The open men's final kicked off at the Bowl with the sun already setting. Despite Mark Cameron's attacks, Boyd surfed flawlessly and secured a back-to-back national title.

"I'm glad to have this trophy back on the mantlepiece! Thanks to everyone who made the event possible and so sick and the sun gods for shining down on us," expressed Mark Boyd.

The women hit the Cove and were greeted by challenging conditions. A very narrow margin decided this year's title.

McLachlan, an 18-year-old surfer from Murkle, beat defending champion Phoebe Strachan by only 0.07 points.

"The endless summer had to end eventually, but I can't complain about the weather. We scored at the Scottish Surf championships and, to top it off, I won the ladies' category!" added Iona McLachlan.
