Mick Fanning won his first ever event in Hawaii. The Australian surfer conquered the 2015 Vans World Cup of Surfing, at Sunset Beach.

The World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) is over. In a challenging final against Julian Wilson, John John Florence, and Matt Wilkinson, Fanning only rode three waves to raise the trophy.

"I've gotten so close so many times, made pretty much every final twice but never got the cookie. I'm so honored to win here at Sunset; it's such a tough event, everyone was going so crazy. I'm just so stoked," said Fanning.

With 13 minutes to go, Mick was fourth. But a 9.87-point wave put him in the driver's seat. Despite the stellar wave conditions, his opponents were not able to find a backup score that would dethrone Fanning from first place.

"Incredible day, the waves have been incredible. How lucky we are just to paddle out with three other guys in perfect Sunset. I'm pretty tired right now but just over the moon."

Who will claim the 2015 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing? Wade Carmichael, Gabriel Medina, and Dusty Payne are in the top spots, but the Billabong Pipe Masters will have the last word.
