Mick Fanning: brakes activated

Swell in the four-to-six foot (2 metre) range is pouring into Lower Trestles this morning, prompting event officials at the Hurley Pro at Trestles to call Round 3 of competition on at 8am.

Stop No. 6 of 10 on the ASP World Tour, the Hurley Pro at Trestles has completed the opening two rounds of competition and today will see the continuation of the new ASP Dream Tour format.

“The swell has built further overnight and we’re going to get straight into action this morning at 8am,” Richie Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “We’ll be assessing conditions throughout the morning and will likely move into Round 4.”

Surfline, official forecasters for the Hurley Pro at Trestles, are calling for the swell to continue to rise today, before peaking on Saturday, the final day of the waiting period.

The first heat of the day will see reigning two-time ASP World Champion Mick Fanning (AUS), 29, take on dangerous Hawaiian rookie Dusty Payne (HAW), 21, at 8am.
