Annual Duke's OceanFest: waves for everyone

The 12th Annual Duke's OceanFest is hitting Waikiki, in Hawaii, between August 17th-25th.

The Annual Duke's OceanFest honors the life and career of the legendary surfer/swimmer who keeps inspiring several generations of men and women.

The nine-day event features a variety of ocean sports that were close to Duke Kahanamoku's heart: Longboard Surfing, Paddleboard Racing, Swimming, Tandem Surfing, Surfboard Water Polo, Beach Volleyball, and more.

Duke Kahanamoku is probably the most important waterman of the last 100 years. When he passed away, in 1968, the spirit of Aloha and passion for surfing lived on.

He is regarded as Hawaii's greatest athlete, having won six Olympic medals, including three gold medals in swimming, from 1912 to 1932 and is also recognized as the "Father of International Surfing."

He was the first person inducted into both the International Swimming Hall of Fame (1965) and International Surfing Hall of Fame (1966).
