While the trains pass by, the world's best surfers paddle out for the 2015 Hurley Pro, at the cobblestone break of Lower Trestles, Southern California.

Surfers now call it a surf park. Trestles and its multiple peaks are the stars of San Onofre State Beach, a place that seems to have been designed for riding waves.

Lower Trestles is a proving ground for aspiring world surfing champions. It is often called a "high-performance wave" where nothing is impossible. Even getting barreled in a few A-frames.

Only 1550 points separate the top five surfers on the 2015 World Surf League rankings. Knowing that a victory is worth 10,000 points, you can definitely feel the pressure in the air.

"I came here a week ago to get ready and I'm feeling amazing at the moment. I'm hoping to make it into the top eight. At Lower Trestles, you need to demonstrate everything - airs and rail - and I've been training hard to give it my best," notes Adriano de Souza.

And if a solid south swell hits Lowers, there will be blood. And if light winds prevail, you should invite the US President to watch the show. It's going to be one hell of a show.

Adriano de Souza, Mick Fanning, Owen Wright, Julian Wilson and Filipe Toledo are quietly chasing the title, but a win for Kelly Slater could revamp the whole game.

Hiroto Ohhara, winner of the 2015 US Open of Surfing, has earned a wildcard into the main event. It will be interesting to see what are his plans for Lower Trestles. Rail-to-rail game or aerial creativity?
