The world's best surfing achievements in 2014 have been highlighted at the 2015 World Surf League (WSL) Awards, a ceremony held in Coolangatta, Australia.

Wetsuits were left at home, as the planet's most successful wave riders wore their tuxedos and gala dresses. Gabriel Medina, Stephanie Gilmore, Mick Fanning, Tyler Wright, Harley Ingleby, Chelsea Williams, Vasco Ribeiro and Mahina Maeda showed their 2014 world titles to the photographers.

"It is because of my support team that I'm here tonight. My family, my friends, my fellow surfers on tour and my country. Brazil never had a world champion before," expressed Medina.

But they were not the only ones smiling for the cameras. John John Florence and Johanne Defay were named "Breakthrough Performers" of the last season.

The "Heats of the Year" went to John John Florence versus Kelly Slater at Tahiti, and for Tyler Wright versus Stephanie Gilmore at Bells Beach.

"The level of talent on tour has never been higher and the surfing has never been more exciting. To come away with a win in that kind of environment was incredibly rewarding on a personal level, and it gives me great confidence heading into the year and women's surfing for the future," added Gilmore.

Finally, Julian Wilson and Lakey Peterson performed the "Move of the Year"; the "Wave of the Year" award went to Kelly Slater and Stephanie Gilmore.
