Rareform: transforming billboards into surfboard bags

In nature nothing is lost, everything is transformed. A young surf company followed Lavoisier's principles and is transforming billboards into surfboard bags.

Rareform is trying to move action sports into the sustainable business field. The Californian start-up has discovered a way of transforming billboard ads into light, durable, waterproof surfboard bags.

"The process starts when we intercept these billboards before they reach the landfill. We then wash, cut and sew each bag, here in California. No two products are alike", explains Alec Avedissian, founder of Rareform.

The surf, snow and skate brand was born when Avedissian noticed that his friends in a Central American fishing village were using something unexpected to build their houses: old billboard material.

After asking around, it wasn’t hard to see why. The billboard vinyl was durable, water-proof, mildew-proof, and, most importantly, readily available. They say necessity is the mother of invention. Alec’s friends in Central America needed something, and they were inventing well.

That is when he decides to head back home to build the innovative surf company. Billboards, imagination and spirit of entrepreneurship made the rest.

Ryan Judy and Sho Rust have joined the company and Rareform was born. The collection includes surfboard bags, SUP paddle blade covers and change mats for surfers. Nature thanks them and your choice.
