Vasco Ribeiro and Teresa Bonvalot are the 2014 Portuguese national surfing champions.

The fifth and last event of Liga Moche concluded with the Montepio Cascais Pro, held in perfect clean six-foot wave faces.

Vasco Ribeiro, 19, had to secure a spot in the final to claim his third national title. And that was exactly what happened.

"Today when I woke up, I knew I had to get to the final if he wanted to be a national champion surf again, so that was always my goal throughout the day. There are no words to describe this moment. I'm so happy. Thanks everyone for the support!" expresses Ribeiro.

But Frederico Morais, the defending champion, had other plans for the final. He ended up winning the Montepio Cascais Pro and splitting the limelight with the newly crowned national champion.

Teresa Bonvalot stole the Women's overall title from the defending champion Carina Duarte, who also won the last stage. At 14, Bonvalot shows an impressive track record of four victories and two runner-up finishes.

"I am very happy to have won the national Women's title that I lost here in Guincho, in 2013. Congratulations to all surfers and thanks to all who made this year possible," concludes Bonvalot, who earned a wildcard for the Cascais Women's Pro.
