Kalani Vierra and Krystl Apeles: the 2015 ITSA Tandem Surfing world champions

Kalani Vierra and Krystl Apeles have been crowned the 2015 Tandem Surfing world champions, at Makaha Beach, in Oahu, Hawaii.

Despite the challenging overhead surf, the SeaHawaii Tandem Surfing World Championship was a spectacular success. The overall level of competition was incredibly high, and all fans kept their eyes on the water during the final heat.

Vierra and Apeles were clearly delivering at the highest level. They performed an arabesque, flat, acro and split acro on their winning wave, and maxed out their lift score twice in the powerful waves.

"We had a game plan. We had plan A and plan B. And we were able to execute most of them, but with this kind of surf, we had no idea what we were going to do. We were like 'we don't have a plan for this!'," laughed Apeles.

"I am very happy and stoked, it was a long year, we trained hard, and we surfed all types of conditions, so I am happy with our result. The wave is a long right-hander, so it is a really good wave, a long ride so your able to have a lot of poses," added Vierra.
