Citywave announced the construction of the world's largest stationary wave. The investment is expected to reach around $5 million.

The German artificial wave designers will install a 52.5-foot (16 meters) wide, deep-water stationary wave in Lakeside Surf, a surf park located in Chelan, Washington, USA.

According to the Citywave, the new facility will be the first deep-water stationary wave in the United States and will open to the general public during the summer of 2019.

The surf complex will deliver waves that go up to six feet and can be ridden with standard surfboards equipped with fins.

Lakeside Surf is part of Slidewaters Waterpark, a family-friendly aquatic park, but will be an independent structure that will be open beyond Slidewaters' operating hours and season.

"Lakeside Surf will operate before and after Slidewaters opens each day, as well as earlier and later in the year. We want to host surfers 9-months out of the year," notes Robert Bordner, one of the owners of Lakeside Surf.

An Integrated Experience

The wave pool powered by Citywave USA will also provide surf lessons, training sessions, and plans to host surfing contests.

The two-acre project will also accommodate concerts and parties and has plans for a surf shop, restaurants, a two-story bar, beach volleyball and pickleball courts, and private cabanas.

Citywave's artificial wave is modeled after river surfing, with the three-to-five feet of water depth and the strong water pressure and power of the wave creating a surfing experience that enables uninhibited riding.

From a technological point of view, the wave is entirely controllable and adjustable and also allows bodysurfers, bodyboarders, stand-up paddleboarders, and kayakers the chance to experience it.
