In what many consider the best competitive surfing rivalry of this millennium, 8x ASP World Champion and current ratings leader on the ASP World Tour Kelly Slater (USA) and 3x ASP World Champion Andy Irons (HAW) reunited and were spotted trading barrels at Rifles in the Mentawai Islands of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia last week.

The session went down from 2pm to 7pm on Monday, June 30, 2008 with sets pulsing through in the solid six foot (2 metre) range, and in addition to Slater and Irons going blow for blow, Hawaiian charger Ross Williams and former ASP World Champion Martin Potter (GBR) were also getting in the mix.

According to reports, AI and Kelly were on hand shooting footage for an ESPN documentary chronicling their famous rivalry, and if the performances of these two at Rifles are any indication of where their heads are at, the remaining Top 45 better bring their A-Game to South Africa for the upcoming Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay.
