On January 17 and 18, 2018, a group of big wave surfers challenged some of the biggest waves ever at Praia do Norte, in Nazaré, Portugal.

Maya Gabeira, Hugo Vau, Alex Botelho, Sebastian Steudtner, Ross Clarke-Jones, Benjamin Sanchis, Axi Muniain, and others, woke up to giant swell that hit the local underwater canyon like a cannonball.

You could feel the energy of the ocean, and the excitement building in the lineup. Everyone wanted a slice of history, and Mother Nature made sure they wouldn't leave the dangerous surf break without unforgettable memories.

August 3, 2016, was a day that surfers should never forget. For the first time in its long history, surfing was confirmed in the Olympic Games.
